Actually, 'unlocking' is not a concept that has any meaning for CDMA, which both Sprint and Verizon use. Verizon iPhones, starting with the iPhone 5 are unlocked for use on any GSM carrier, including domestic ones. However, Verizon phones still can't be used on Sprint as that would require, as Ralph noted, flashing the firmware, something neither Sprint nor Verizon does. Best of luck.

I had him call sprint and request a new Sim card be mailed to him. Sim card arrived today, I popped it in the phone and called the Sprint activation line. Was transferred to a rep who requested the MEID number of the Verizon iPhone (I did not mention at any point that this was a VERIZON iPhone). After that, she asked for the new SIM cards ICC ID number. The activation completed successfully on her end and she instructed me to restart my iphone. Once it was back on, she had me dial ##873283#. After a few minutes, the phone displayed a 'Service Update Complete' message.
I then placed a test call to my other cell which went through fine. I disabled wifi and tested some sites over LTE and that also worked.
